The Mission of the Mature Transformation Program:

  1. Provide expertise and service in mature transformation of citrus
  2. Improve transformation technologies
  3. Teach and train scientists and students

About the Mature Transformation Facility

The Mature Transformation facility is located at the Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, Fl.  It opened in April 2011 as a need to improve citrus varieties without using juvenile seedlings. This will greatly decrease timeline between genetic transformation and its use in the field. It was made possible with a Grant from the Citrus Research and Development Foundation, Inc.,  the technical assistance of Dr. Leandro Pena (IVIA-Spain) and support from the Citrus Research and Education Center Director, Dr. Jackie Burns and Dr. Bill Dawson. The facility will be at the service of all public and private scientists, growers and nurserymen interested in getting mature transformants of a given genotype with a given transgene of interest.

Any questions regarding the services this facility will provide can be directed to Dr. Cecilia Zapata.
