Japan’s Chief Citrus Greening Scientist to Present Seminars

Dr. Toru Iwanami, Chief Researcher, National Institute of Fruit Tree Science in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan, will present two seminars here. The seminars will be held Nov. 6 and 7 at 10:45 a.m. in the Teaching Laboratory, Ben Hill Griffin Jr. Citrus Hall. The topic of the seminar on Nov. 6 is “Spread of Citrus Greening in Japan, and Development of Control Measures.” On Nov. 7, Iwanami will present “Molecular Characterization of Citrus Greening Organism.”
Iwanami is a chief scientist working with the citrus greening research team. His research projects include: Field survey and epidemiology of greening; Molecular characterization of Liberibacter asiaticus; Sensitive and rapid detection using LAMP and/or PCR; Control on vector insects and infection by vector insects using systematic neoniconinoid insecticide; and screening on resistant and tolerate varieties.
Please remember that renovations continue in the Ben Hill Griffin Jr. Citrus Hall. The Teaching Lab construction is complete but work continues in the hallway and in other areas. Seminar attendees must use the west entrance.
