LAKE ALFRED, FLA (Sept. 2006) – Dr. Lukasz Stelinski, a postdoctoral research associate in entomology from Michigan State University (MSU), is the first of three candidates applying for the Citrus Research and Education Center’s Entomology faculty position. Stelinski will be presenting his seminar entitled “Applied chemical ecology for insect pest control in Michigan fruit crops with emphasis on mating disruption.” The seminar will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 at the University of Florida/IFAS, Citrus Research Center, Ben Hill Griffin Hall, located at 700 Experiment Station Road, Lake Alfred, Fla. in Room 2, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Dr. Stelinski received his B.A. in 1999, graduating with honors from Kalamazoo College. He continued his education, majoring in entomology, and received his M.A. in 2001 and his Ph.D. in 2005 from MSU. Stelinski’s research and extension activities have included Integrated Pest Management (IPM) including insect behavior; chemical ecology; biological, chemical, and cultural control; and has largely focused on development and implementation of behavior-modifying chemicals, such as plant-derived kairomones and sex-attractant pheromones for pest management.
In the past 5 years, Stelinski has published 25 peer-reviewed articles in both national and international entomology journals including Journal of Chemical Ecology, Journal of Insect Physiology, Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, and Biological Control. Dr. Stelinski was also the recipient if the Dreisbach Award for outstanding achievement in the Ph.D. program from the Department of Entomology at MSU and the J. H. Comstock Graduate Student Award from the North Central Branch of the Entomological Society of America.
