LAKE ALFRED, Florida - At the recent 120th meeting of the Florida State Horticultural Society (FSHS) in Palm Beach, Florida, the 2007-2008 officers were announced.
The President is Dr. Jim Syvertsen, University of Florida (UF), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), Citrus Research and Education Center (REC), Lake Alfred, Florida. Syvertsen’s goals are to increase FSHS communications and membership.
Juanita Popenoe was named the Vice President of Garden and Landscape. Gary Luzio, was selected as the Vice President of Handling and Processing. Popenoe is with the UF/IFAS Extension, Commercial Horticulture, Lake County, Florida. Luzio works with the United States Department of Agriculture/Agricultural Research Service, Winter Haven, Florida. Jeff Williamson was named Krome (Tropicals) Vice President and he is with the UF/IFAS Horticultural Sciences in Gainesville. Craig Chandler is the Vice President for Vegetables and works for the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast REC, Balm, Florida. The Vice President for Citrus works at the UF/IFAS Southwest REC in Immokalee, Florida and is Kelly Morgan. These sectional vice presidents mission is the development of the June 2008 FSHS program annual meeting to be held in Fort Lauderdale.
