This page contains answers to common questions handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful and presented here as questions.


I want to buy a new computer.

The first question is this computer for business or home.  The University of Florida has discount prices for both office and home computers from a variety of vendors.


How do I change my default address list in Outlook?

Outlook
1. Click on the icon that looks like an open book with the tool tip ‘address book’, select ‘tools’ on the menu and then ‘options’,

2. Here you can change which list is your default and how Outlook searches for contacts.
Tools g Options …
3. You may also add new list here, but first you must set them to be viewable. Go to ‘contacts’
Go g Contacts or CTRL + 3
4. Right click on the list you want to add and select ‘properties’.
R-Click g  Properties
5. On the ‘Outlook address book’ tab insure ‘Show this folder as an e-mail address book’ is checked and give it a name you will recognize.

Outlook Express
1. Click on the icon that looks like an open book with the tool tip ‘address book’.
Tools g  Address Book, or CTRL + Shift + B
2. Your options are very limited here but this is where you contacts are stored.

I want to switch to a new computer.

Step-by-Step

  1. Log into your old computer
  2. Copy all of your data to your U:\ drive
  3. Run the migration wizard
    1. Start g Run g “Migwiz” g OK
    2. Next g Old computer + Next g (if security warning appears select unblock) g Other “U:\” + Next g Next (defaults) g Next (information only) g Next or Finish
  4. Contact ISD so they can install your new PC.
  5. Log into your new computer.
  6. Run the migration wizard
    1. Start g Run g “Migwiz” g OK
    2. Next g New computer + Next g I don’t need a wizard disk. + Next g Other “U:\” + Next g Next or Finish
  7. Recopy any files from your U:\ drive to your new computer that the migration wizard missed.
  8. Contact ISD for finalizing the migration. ISD can and will check to insure your email, printers, shared folders, and any other computing needs are met.
